Last evening I went to Carnegie Hall to hear the Israel Philharmonic orchestra. There were demonstrations outside against Israel but I did not see them. The orchestra originated in 1936 as the Palestine Symphony Orchestra. It was renamed after 1948.
The acoustics in Carnegie Hall were wonderful even from the balcony. The orchestra was as good as any I can recall hearing. It was large - eight double basses.
They played Leonard Bernstein’s Halil, Paul Ben-Haim’s Symphony No 1 and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No 5.
