Several friends had suggested the newly renovated Frick Collection for a visit. Yesterday I went there by bus and found a line up even for standby but I was able to book a ticket for noon to-day.
I do not claim to be very knowledgable about art but I was very impressed with the condition of the many paintings, coins, clocks, religious vestments, challices and many other very rare objects that had been collected by Henry Clay Frick. The museum first opened in 1935. Recently it was closed for several years and has had a major renovation - even including the bathrooms.
Henry Clay Frick lived from 1849-1919. He was a ruthless but successful businessman who made his fortune in coke and steel making.
Over lunch, by chance I had a fascinating discussion with a woman who lived in Washington DC and in New Mexico. She had been a political fund raiser but now has retired from that and works as a fund raiser for arts organizations. Although she did not drop any names I suspect she knew a lot of very wealthy US people.
I rode to the Frick on the subway and back on a bus. It was only 7C this morning in NY but is now 15C.
I tried to cut and paste a link the pictures in the Frick Collection. One was not allowed to take pictures. There were staff in every room guarding the collection and ensuring no pictures were taken.
